About the author: Ana María Fernández-Maldonado

Ana María Fernández-Maldonado graduated as an architect in 1982 at the Faculty of Architecture, Urbanism and Arts of the National Engineering University in Lima, Peru. In 1990 she received a MSc
with a mention in Architecture and specialisation in Human Settlements, from the same faculty. During 1992-1994 she studied at the section of Urbanism of the Faculty of Architecture of Delft University of Technology, receiving a Masters in Technological Design (1994). Since 1997 she is affiliated with this faculty as a researcher and coordinator of the Design Studio The Network City, currently part of the Delft Centre for Sustainable Urban Areas of the Delft University of Technology.

In her research on urban ICT studies, with emphasis on developing countries and urban deprivation issues. She wrote various contributions in journals and books on this subject.

She has contributed to the urban ICT literature with several chapters in books, scientific journals and has contributed to international conferences.

She has more than twenty years of professional experience, working as an architect, urban designer, urban planner and urban researcher in Latin America and as an urban researcher in Europe.
